UXBRIDGE, ONT. — PCL’s civil team has officially started early works construction in the first step of the Uxbridge Hospital redevelopment project.
The work includes preparatory tasks and groundwork before the main construction phase begins in spring 2026, explains a release. These tasks will include underground site development, extending site services, demolition of the EMS building and the hospital maintenance shop/garage and expanding parking.
Last month, the Ontario government announced $8.9 million in funding for the project, which also includes a brand new 192-bed long-term care home co-located on the hospital campus.
Key upgrades at the hospital will include:
- Increased patient capacity, with the addition of up to 11 new beds, bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 31.
- Expansion of services, including diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory services and laboratory and pharmacy services.
- Increased access to inpatient, emergency and ambulatory services.
Completion is expected in 2028 with the hospital welcoming its first patients in the new building in 2029.
