Global Crane Services has taken delivery of its fourth Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1, a telescopic cranes with a rated lifting capacity of 700 tonnes.

The new eight-axle machine has been purchased to bolster heavy-lift operations across Global Crane Services and Global Wind Projects – divisions of Global Port Services Scotland Ltd – supporting projects in the civils, renewable energy, port and offshore sectors.

The crane was delivered to the company’s Aberdeen depot, where operators completed familiarisation training led by Liebherr Great Britain’s training services. Following the induction, the crane headed straight into service.

The LTM 1650-8.1 is equipped with two alternate telescopic boom lengths: a 54-metre basic boom that can be extended to 80 metres. The unit is completed with a 90-metre luffing jib and Y-shaped guying system, taking the hook height to its maximum of 152 metres and

a working radius of 112 metres.

Global Crane Services general manager Gordon Harper said: “We’re delighted to kick start the year with the delivery of our fourth LTM 1650-8.1, which will head straight out to work following the driver inductions. The LTM 1650-8.1 is a well-proven crane in our fleet and has been pivotal to our success in many wind and heavy lift projects.”

Further fleet investments are planned for the year ahead, with Global having placed orders for a pair of 250-tonne LTM 1250-5.1s, scheduled for delivery later this year.

Last year Global Crane Services bought seven new mobile cranes, ranging from 70 to 250 tonnes. The company now operates more than 70 cranes, all but one of which are Liebherr, including two lattice-boomed LG 1750 truck cranes, which have a rated capacity of 750 tonnes.
