Here is an encouraging prediction for the lighting industry: the U.S. decorative lighting market is expected to grow more than 5% (CAGR) over the next eight years, according to one international market research firm. Lamps are expected to have a similar growth trajectory.
Dublin-based ResearchandMarkets.com expects the market value of decorative lighting to grow from $36.59 billion in 2025 to $56.72 billion in 2033, driven by evolving design trends, urban development and increasing consumer focus on interior aesthetics and ambiance.
The U.S. lamp market is expected to grow from $4.48 billion in 2025 to $6.58 billion by 2033, a compound annual growth rate of 4.92%. Growing energy efficiency trends, lighting technology progress and demand for stylish options are contributing to that predicted growth, ResearchAndMarkets.com said.
“Decorative lighting has evolved beyond its functional purpose to become a key element in interior design, influencing the atmosphere and style of residential, commercial and hospitality spaces,” the report noted. “Consumers are increasingly opting for lighting solutions that combine functionality, energy efficiency and visual appeal.”
Social media influence and the DIY décor culture has increased consumer awareness of the category, while LED advancements have allowed for more innovative design, longer lifespans and less energy consumption, the report noted.
The hospitality and real estate sectors are contributing “significantly” to market expansion through investments in premium lighting, it added.
The decorative lighting business faces challenges, however, including “intense competition, market fragmentation and price sensitivity.”
“Nevertheless, with evolving consumer preferences, innovative product designs, and increasing integration of smart lighting technologies, the United States decorative lighting market is poised for continued growth in the coming years.”
The lamp business, meanwhile, faces a “fierce price war and market over-saturation.”
“Managing affordability and quality assurance and brand loyalty is a key challenge for long-term growth in the saturated U.S. lamps market.”
