WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — Elk Home is ceasing operations and liquidating all its inventory after 40 years in business.
The company, which got its start in lighting and later expanded to include whole home goods, has hired GA Group, an asset disposition firm, to liquidate the $46 million in inventory held in its Georgia distribution center, according to a release issued this morning by GA.
Rumors about Elk’s closure have been swirling around the home accents community for several months. The company’s showrooms in High Point and Dallas were shuttered at their respective markets in April and June this year, and retailers received notice of the liquidation in letters sent to them late last month. Elk officials could not be reached for immediate comment.
In addition to its designer lighting, Elk Home’s collection included modern dining tables and chairs, accent and occasional tables, consoles, desks, bookcases, and storage solutions such as cabinets, credenzas, and chests. It also offers stools, benches, ottomans, and select outdoor furniture. It was an ARTS Award finalist in the home accents division last year.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for home furnishings businesses to mitigate tariff challenges and purchase directly from the liquidation process, below manufacturers’ costs,” said Seth Marks, senior vice president and head of wholesale solutions for GA Group, in the release.
