MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Bird Construction Inc. has entered into a Development Phase Agreement (DPA) with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and William Osler Health System (Osler) for the Peel Memorial Hospital Phase 2 Redevelopment project.
This announcement follows Bird’s selection as the preferred proponent in late September and marks the start of the development phase.
Bird will now work in close collaboration with Osler and IO to advance the project’s design, schedule, pricing and risk parameters under a progressive design-build model, states a release. Upon completion of this phase, Bird expects to enter into a target price project agreement to deliver the project.
“The DPA for the Peel Memorial Hospital Phase 2 Redevelopment reflects Bird’s extensive experience delivering complex health care infrastructure across Canada,” said Teri McKibbon, president and CEO of Bird, in a statement. “This progressive contracting model fosters early engagement, informed decision-making, and disciplined risk management, which are all key drivers of value for our clients, partners, and communities.”
The redevelopment project includes 250 inpatient beds with space to build more in the future; new and enhanced mental health and addictions programs; more services for seniors, including dementia care; rehabilitation and complex continuing care; inpatient and outpatient dialysis; new outpatient clinics and services; and a 24/7 emergency department.
The build will also incorporate principles of senior-friendly design, accessibility and infection prevention and control, explains a release.
The project will focus on sustainable design and construction with the goal of achieving LEED Silver certification.
