Whittington House is a 74,500 sq ft office building, designed by Richard Seifert & Partners, in Alfred Place, London WC1, near the Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line station.
It was bought by Great Portland Estates (GPE) for £58.5m a year ago, with the intention of redeveloping it.
Camden Council has now approved GPE’s plans, subject to completing a legal agreement.
According to GPE, the development will deliver eight floors of “sustainable offices with market-leading amenity”, with a new rooftop terrace and pavilion, fronting onto the newly pedestrianised Alfred Place.
The project will be delivered in Q1 2027, GPE said.
Trevor Phyo, senior development manager at Great Portland Estates, said: “Securing planning permission from Camden Council marks a significant milestone for this project. We’re proud to be breathing new life into this building, recognising its architectural heritage, and transforming it into a standout workplace that reflects the future of office design. This development strengthens our HQ portfolio and reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional spaces in prime London locations.”
