The Rug Company has unveiled Ratio by Paul Smith, a collaboration that translates the designer’s distinctive approach to pattern into richly tactile form.
Rooted in Bauhaus principles of order, proportion and repetition, the collection explores how precise geometry can be softened through craftsmanship, transforming graphic compositions into immersive, hand-knotted surfaces.

A longstanding admirer of modernist design, Smith brings his characteristic balance of discipline and expressiveness to the collection. His affinity for rhythm and structure is reinterpreted through The Rug Company’s artisanal expertise, where graphic motifs evolve into depth and movement.
Ratio comprises four designs: Axis, Stil, Raster and Takt, each offering a distinct interpretation of geometric order. From gently modulated grids to micro-geometric compositions, the collection moves fluidly between restraint and richness, allowing patterns to unfold with a quiet sense of dynamism within interior spaces. At the heart of the collection is Takt, which shows a technical innovation developed by The Rug Company’s artisans. Merging the disciplined precision of Tulu knotting with the plush tactility of Indo-Nepali Persian hand knotting, it results in a surface that is at once sharply defined and irresistibly soft.

Each rug reflects The Rug Company’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and its role as a trusted creative partner to the global design community.
The collaboration launch follows the recent announcement of Will Cooper as creative director of The Rug Company. Cooper’s appointment ushers in a new era of creativity for the company.
Since it inception, the brand has worked closely with Nepalese artisans while inviting a wide range of cultural voices, from Alexander McQueen, who began creating rugs as works of art and limited-edition tapestries in 1997, to Diane von Furstenberg, Dale Chihuly, and Rodarte, to translate their distinct visual languages into a new medium.

The Luxe 2 Rug from Nordic Knots is now available in Pencil Grey and Bordeaux. The tasteful pattern brings dimensionality to the surface.
With subtle variation in pile height, the rug enhances the design of each room with an understated, monochromatic pattern. In Pencil Grey, Luxe 2 acts as a neutral foundation for everything above it, lending balance and vibrance to neighboring colors. Nourison Hospitality‘s Glassfall collection has been named a finalist in the flooring category at the 22nd annual Hospitality Design Awards.
The Glassfall collection was selected from more than 1,100 products and project submissions worldwide, with finalists in the flooring category drawn from across the broader hard- and soft-surface industry, including tile and timber.

“Being named a finalist alongside tile and timber, in such a competitive year, is a meaningful recognition for our designers and our manufacturing teams,” said Feryal Rehman, vice president of marketing, Nourison Hospitality.
Unveiled at BDNY 2025, Glassfall reinvents the stripe through the lens of reeded glass, layering texture and color to create patterns that feel both modern and timeless. Anchored in viridian, a cinematic, heritage green that balances stability with indulgence, the palette is enriched by shades of oxblood, amethyst and accents of coral red.
Together, these tones produce immersive, transitional designs intended to bring depth, mystery and refinement to hospitality interiors. Designed by Nourison Hospitality’s senior designers, the collection spans multiple constructions, each chosen to show the designs in their best light. The hand-carved Axminster broadlooms are integrally woven from 80% premium wool and 20% nylon on electronic jacquard looms, allowing for large-scale, non-repeating patterns.

The hand-tufted rugs combine intricate color blending, hand carving and variations in pile height.
Plus, the rugs pair hand-woven and hand-knotted constructions to create pieces that are entirely made by hand and designed to be displayed as an art piece.
“Glassfall began with a simple observation: the way reeded glass quietly distorts and reorders what passes through it,” said Dipesh Haria, creative director, Nourison Hospitality. “Our team translated that idea into pattern, texture and color across very different constructions, and to be recognized in a flooring category that included the best of the best tile and timber alongside carpet validates the ambition behind this work.”
The 22nd annual Hospitality Design Awards were presented in Las Vegas earlier this month, with more than 400 industry guests in attendance. Glassfall will be on display when Nourison Hospitality returns to BDNY in November 2026.
