According to a release from FCC, the joint venture was previously selected by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario in 2024 for the collaborative development phase of the progressive design-build project and the implementation phase is now underway.
The contract will bring three kilometres of new twin tunnels and two underground stations, with one connecting to the existing Pape Station on the Line 2 subway. It will extend from Gerrard Street, through the Greektown, Pape Village and East York neighborhoods, all the way to where Minton Place meets the Don Valley Parkway, the release describes.
It will be integrated within the entire 15.6 kilometre Ontario Line subway project.
Webuild reports the PTUS package represents one of the most technically challenging sections of the entire Ontario Line project. The company had already been awarded the RSSOM contract for the supply of trains and technological systems for the new subway line.
“Delivering the PTUS package will require major excavation and construction activities in one of Canada’s most complex urban environments, characterized by existing infrastructure networks, underground utilities and traffic both above and below ground,” Webuild states. “This context demands the highest standards of design and construction co-ordination to ensure the city can operate smoothly throughout all phases of the works.”
The PTUS package is being delivered under a Progressive Design-Build model.
