SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Ciana Lighting, a bespoke company, has acquired in a deal that puts Varaluz on firm financial footing, enhances its production capability and opens it to new markets.

Varaluz will continue to design under its own name and under the guidance of its founder and president, . , the co-CEO of Ciana, now serves as CEO of Varaluz.

“Varaluz has always been a standout name in the lighting world — bold, unconventional and beautifully expressive,” said Plumb in a press release. “Bringing them into the Ciana family is not just a strategic move; it’s a labor of love. We’re proud to play a role in helping Varaluz return to glory.”

Varaluz filed for bankruptcy on June 23, 2024. Ciana bought the company in a stalking horse bidder , according to Henderson. Terms of the deal, which was made official April 30, were not disclosed.

“It’s an amazing reset for Varaluz,” Henderson told Home Accents Today. “We have amazing expertise and support [from Ciana], helping us get to the next level.

“They fixed our weaknesses and we’re coming out all guns a blazing.”

Salt Lake City-based Ciana is best known for its bespoke lighting, religious and royalty customers. It manufactures fixed lighting, not portables. Although it offered a small home line a few years ago that was an outgrowth of something else, Henderson said, it has not been in the residential business – until now.

“Ciana has built its identity around creating lighting that evokes divinity, hospitality and dignity,” Cian CEO Kevin Bauer said in a release. “Varaluzs’ artistic energy is a perfect complement to our own design ethos. Together, we’re writing the next great chapter in bespoke lighting.”

The deal also expands Varaluz’ hospitality work.  Although Varaluz has done hospitality work in the past, Henderson said, most of that has flown under the radar.

The two companies will have new offerings at the show in Dallas later this month. “We have a lot of amazing things in the works [for] High Point, if we can pull it off, and certainly for January next year,” added Henderson.
