TORONTO — Work has started on the foundations for the guideway as part of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) Elevated Guideway project.
Aecon recently reported crews are drilling large cylindrical holes deep in the ground, placing steel reinforcement bars within to enhance strength, before backfilling with concrete on the foundations.
Aecon is delivering the elevated guideway for the ECWE under a design-build contract.
The scope of work includes the design and construction of a 1.5-kilometre elevated guideway that will run along the north side of Eglinton Avenue West, from just east of Jane Street to just west of Scarlett Road.
The guideway will form part of the 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The extension will run from Mount Dennis in the east to Renforth Drive in the west.
Aecon is also involved in the construction of the western underground segment of the route, through the WestEnd Connectors consortium, a release adds.
Aecon subcontracted certain early works to Aecon Six Nations (A6N), an Indigenous-owned and operated general partnership between Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (51 per cent) and Aecon (49 per cent).
Construction for the guideway project began in 2024.
