Herman Miller and Heath Ceramics — two storied, American heritage design brands — have collaborated on a limited-edition tabletop collection called Gathered. It is Herman Miller’s first venture into the category.
In the collaboration, it was critical that the collection felt “both innately Heath and distinctly Herman Miller, while simultaneously representing something new for each brand,” the companies said in a release.
Heath is a 77-year-old California company that makes handcrafted ceramics known for their distinctive glazes.
Herman Miller is a furniture maker best known for its partnerships with visionary designers from the midcentury through today. Founded in Michigan in 1905 as Star Furniture Company, it changed its name to Herman Miller in 1923 and is now part of Miller Knoll.
The two companies’ seven-piece tabletop collection encompasses statement serving pieces and dinnerware, incorporating designs from Heath’s iconic Coupe line, which dates to the 1940s, alongside a brand-new dinner bowl. The color palette — a mix of tonal yellows, neutrals and a surprising zing of chartreuse in contrasting matte and glossy glazes — reflects Herman Miller’s color theory that has been applied to furniture and finishes from the midcentury on.
“We approached form and color with boldness and purpose, exploring tension and harmony through a refined, yet buoyant glaze palette,” said Heath Design Director Rosalie Wild. “The result is a collection of unexpected beauty, bound to become a classic.”
