TORONTO – Work is well underway on Toronto’s Belmont House redevelopment, which aims to expand the seniors’ organization’s Campus of Care.

The project, designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects and constructed by Graham, includes an eleven-storey plus basement addition and introduces 168 new long-term care beds and 32 assisted living beds to the downtown site. It will connect to the existing seven-storey retirement residence and five-storey long-term care home.

According to a release, the site plan and the ground floor have been reconfigured to support the addition, with updated parking, drop-off areas and a new shared lobby, reception and tuck shop.

The addition itself offers a café lounge, boardroom and a larger, more accessible auditorium with its own dedicated community entrance.

The project will connect to the existing seven-storey retirement residence and five-storey long-term care home.

“These spaces are connected by a corridor that frames a new secure courtyard,” the release explains.

Levels two through nine are dedicated to resident home areas, each floor supporting 21 long-term care beds in private bedrooms.

Bedrooms are arranged along a double-loaded corridor, “with a connected social heart that includes a lounge, activity room, outdoor terrace, dining room and home kitchen,” the release adds.

Levels 10 and 11 are privately funded assisted living and memory care units.

The basement extends beneath the courtyard and will contain back-of-house services for the entire campus.

Throughout construction, the existing Belmont House facility will remain operational.

The first residents are expected to move in by fall 2028.
