TORONTO – Youth from Team Ontario returned home from this year’s memorable Skills Canada National Competition with 308 medals.
At a closing ceremony on May 30, following the Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto, which took place over two days, Team Ontario took home 38 medals: 16 gold medals, 15 silver medals and seven bronze medals.
RBC also presented an award called the RBC Best of Region Awards to a competitor, or competitors, from each province and territory with the best-weighted score.
For Ontario, the RBC Best of Region Award was presented to Team Ontario competitor Owen Griffin of Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, who won gold in the Mechanical CAD secondary contest, states a release.
“We congratulate all our competitors for their success. Advancing to the national level of competing is no small achievement, and these young people have worked hard at developing their skills for this event. The future of Ontario is in good hands with these youth who are inspiring others to become skilled trade and technology leaders,” said Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario, in a statement.
In September, four team Ontario competitors from three contests will be travelling to compete as part of Team Canada at WorldSkills in Shanghai, China.
The following Ontario youth competing as part of WorldSkills Team Canada include Ethan Almeida of Centennial College (autobody repair), Luca Assad of George Brown Polytechnic (cooking) and Cole Hunter and Grant Maddock of Humber Polytechnic (mechatronics).
