With an online store as well as a brick-and-mortar, when retailer Will Hunt Lewis of Houston’s Hunt & Bloom buys holiday decor, “we’re basically shopping for all of it,” he said.
This year’s holiday décor trends run the gamut with one overarching theme — retailers expect consumers to take a maximalist approach. This season, Lewis expects “poppy colors” like pinks, aquas and bright greens to trend again, mixed into décor. “It makes people happy,” he said. That said, “you always have your traditionalists,” who are looking for reds, greens, ivory, gold and silver.
Nutcrackers and Santas are expected to sell well at Hunt & Bloom this year, especially in unexpected colors and variations.

Newer holiday trends that Lewis has noticed include patisserie motifs, Chinoiserie inspirations and needlepoint. Ribbon and tinsel have made a comeback, too, something he hasn’t seen in decades, focused on giant bows in an array of colors and blingy styles. Tinsel is back, and natural materials such as rattan will also be prominent this holiday season.
In addition to his core vendors, Hunt said he works with local artisans to add a unique, collectible cottagecore angle his customers won’t find elsewhere.
Lewis turns to social media to see how people are decorating their homes for the holidays for inspiration. “It used to be the retailers setting the trends,” he said. “Today, the consumers are setting the trends.”
