Supported by a $25 million investment from the province, the new department will feature 8,500 square feet of additional emergency space.
Chart Construction has been awarded the contract to carry out the work, which is expected to be completed by 2030 and will include a larger ambulance off-loading area, a new triage/rapid assessment and observation area as well as improvements to existing facilities.
Other features include:
- An upgraded resuscitation area;
- additional treatment rooms, nursing stations and staff work areas;
- improved patient navigation throughout the emergency department and between hospital services;
- better sightlines across patient care area; and
- enhanced infection prevention and control measures, including airborne isolation rooms.
