SCARBOROUGH, ONT. — Ground has been broken on the first of three stations for the Scarborough Subway Extension.

Crews have started piling work at Scarborough Centre Station, which will accommodate more than 10,000 passengers and facilitate over 7,000 transfers during rush hour once complete, explains a release from the Ontario government. The station will also include a new bus terminal.

The Scarborough Subway Extension will extend the TTC’s Line 2 subway service 7.8 kilometres farther into Scarborough, from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road.

Construction is expected to keep 3,000 workers on the job each year and will bring 38,000 people within walking distance of transit once complete, the release adds.
