TORONTO — Construction has started on a new 90,000-square-foot multi-function paramedic station at 300 Progress Ave.
Toronto Paramedic Services Multi-Function Station 02 will be a purpose-built two-storey facility that can house up to 40 ambulances and 20 emergency response vehicles. It will also include a logistics and equipment services area, administrative offices and will become home to Toronto Paramedic Service’s education and development team, states a release.
Designed by Diamond Schmitt in collaboration with gh3*, the facility was developed using net-zero strategies as a direct response to the specific energy requirements of building type and site.
It is organized around “a linear skylit atrium,” the firms note, with the facility itself boasting a mass timber structure, solar wall, geothermal heating and a photovoltaic roofscape that is anticipated to generate over one million kilowatt-hours annually to completely offset the building’s electricity demand.
The facility also includes an all-electrical mechanical system, triple pane glazed windows, high-thermal resistance walls and roofing, and will meet the city’s net-zero standards.
Construction is anticipated to be complete in early 2029.
