OTTAWA — The Ontario government is celebrating the opening of the new Southbridge Ottawa long-term care home and the groundbreaking of a second Southbridge Ottawa home that in total will add 384 beds to the community.

The first Southbridge Ottawa home adds 192 new beds for Nepean and began welcoming residents in March, states a release. The home features six resident home areas, each with dedicated activity spaces and outdoor amenities, along with a worship and theatre space and a beauty and barber salon on the main floor.

Construction on the second Southbridge Ottawa home began in January on the same site. This 192‑bed home will have a similar design and amenities and is expected to be complete in spring 2028.

Coinciding with this news, the Broadview Nursing Home in Smiths Falls, which is adding 128 modern long-term beds, recently re-opened.

This project is a recipient of the provincial construction funding subsidy top-up.

The redeveloped home is designed into four resident home areas that each create living space for up to 32 residents with their own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. The home includes a multi-purpose room, a multi-faith room, a café, a hair salon, and three secure courtyards that include wandering paths, garden planters and family-friendly components, the release adds.
