ETOBICOKE, ONT. – The new Etobicoke Greenway project, a 230-kilovolt line running 6.5 kilometres through an existing corridor between the Richview and Manby Transformer Stations in Etobicoke, is now energized.
The $73 million line will deliver up to 300 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 300,000 homes in western Toronto, southern Mississauga and Oakville, explains a release.
During construction, the project supported 100 jobs and came in on time and $10 million under budget. The savings were put toward a recreational trail alongside the transmission corridor.
First identified in the Independent Electricity System Operator’s 2019 Toronto Integrated Regional Resource Plan, the Richview to Manby project was proposed as a priority investment to strengthen reliability and increase electricity supply into western Toronto.
To complete the project, Hydro One procured approximately 98 per cent of materials from Canadian companies to replace an existing idle transmission line and upgrade the Richview and Manby Transformer Stations, the release adds.
Construction on the Richview to Manby transmission line was completed in late 2025 and the line began delivering power to communities in March 2026.
In addition to this announcement, the Ontario government is also advancing the Toronto Third Line.
Once built, it will deliver up to 900 megawatts to Toronto’s downtown core to ensure the city has the power it needs to support new homes, economic growth and major infrastructure like transit.
