OSHAWA, ONT. — The Province of Ontario made two announcements recently pertaining to highway widening improvements for major thoroughfares in Oshawa and Barrie.

Dufferin Construction Company, a division of CRH Canada Group Inc., was awarded the contract to replace the Park Road and Cubert Street overpasses on Highway 401 in Oshawa.

The Ontario government is replacing the overpasses to accommodate the future widening of Highway 401 to 10 lanes, states a release.

The contract also includes resurfacing the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 from east of Harmony Road to Courtice Road.

The government also announced it is replacing the Dunlop Street bridge in Barrie to accommodate the future widening of Highway 400 to 10 lanes.

Crews will replace the existing Dunlop Street underpass at Highway 400 with modifications to accommodate a 10-lane highway and install a new, taller concrete median barrier. Work will also be done to widen Dunlop Street between the Highway 400 interchange ramps.

Both of these projects are part of the province’s nearly $30 billion plan to build, expand and repair highways, roads and bridges.
