BRANTFORD, ONT. — A new Brant Community Healthcare System hospital is on the receiving end of an additional $12.5 million from the Ontario government.

The money builds on the province’s previous investment of $2.5 million and will allow the Brant Community Healthcare System to advance planning for the new hospital.

Once opened, the new build would include:

  • increased patient capacity;
  • more access to core programs, emergency services and intensive care;
  • medical imaging and other diagnostic services;
  • maternal, newborn and pediatric care programs;
  • mental health and addictions programs, including a mental health emergency medicine unit and specialized mental health outpatient clinic;
  • modernized medical and surgical inpatient units; and
  • new ambulatory care programs and clinics.

As a next step, the Ministry of Health and the Brant Community Healthcare System will complete early planning, including determining bed numbers and square footage. Once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.

Ontario is also supporting other projects at Brant Community Healthcare System, including investing approximately $16 million to complete critical upgrades and repairs of the boiler system and damaged utility services tunnel at Brantford General Hospital.
