TIMMINS, ONT. — A renovation and expansion project is in the works for Timmins and District Hospital’s emergency department.
The hospital will renovate and add over 27,000 square feet to the existing emergency department, expanding it up to four times its current size, states a release.
In 2025-26, Timmins and District Hospital will receive $1.89 million through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, including $1.5 million in one-time funding as an “Exceptional Circumstance Project Grant.”
Once complete, the project will include:
- Increased patient capacity with 29 dedicated patient treatment areas.
- A dedicated area for emergency mental health care.
- Improved infection prevention and control measures.
The Ministry of Health will now work with Timmins and District Hospital to complete planning for the project, including determining final square footage. Once complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.
