TORONTO — Over the weekend, LIUNA International vice-president and Canada director Joseph Mancinelli was named Honorary Colonel of Canada’s Governor General Horseguards (GGHG).

The GGHG is the country’s Senior Reserve Armoured Regiment and is located at the LCol George Taylor Denison III Armoury in Toronto. The regiment is part of 32 Canadian Brigade Group, a primary reserve formation of the Canadian Army and is comprised of volunteer citizen soldiers.

“There are few moments in life that truly humble you, this is one of them,” said Mancinelli in a statement.

“To be appointed Honorary Colonel of the Governor General’s Horse Guards is not just an honour; it is a profound responsibility, one that I accept with deep gratitude and immense pride.

“For generations, this regiment has stood as a symbol of courage, honour, and commitment, embodying the spirit of those who serve not for recognition, but out of duty to country and community. Their legacy reminds us that service and sacrifice remain at the very heart of our nation’s strength.

“I accept this honour not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of every Canadian who believes in the enduring power of service, unity, and duty to country. May we always strive to live up to the values that define this great nation and stand in unwavering devotion to Canada and to one another.”

The honour means Mancinelli will now lead the organization.
