If you’re a retailer returning from one or more of this month’s winter markets, you probably have an enormous number of vendor line sheets to sort through and turn into product copy for your store.
Instead of pasting vendor descriptions straight onto your website, consider using AI tools for better story-telling.
Here are a few simple steps, courtesy of AI, for getting that done quickly and easily:
Upload a vendor line sheet or catalog page to an AI tool
ChatGPT can be your go-to here; you can paste product specs then prompt it to generate retail-ready descriptions in different voices (luxury, casual, playful, etc.) Chat works well for stores and brands that want highly customizable, on-brand text.
Other options: Jasper AI ($59 per month for Pro level, has a 7-day free trial), which has built-in templates for product descriptions, e-commerce copy and SEO; Copy.ai (designed for small teams; $29 per month), which has a product description generator; or Writesonic (has multiple pricing levels ranging from $39 to $399 per month, has free trials), which has AI e-commerce page builders and the ability to run A/B test descriptions.
Prompt AI to rewrite descriptions in your store’s voice
Here’s a sample prompt: “Rewrite these specs into a sales-oriented product description for a boutique home décor store, focusing on benefits and lifestyle imagery.”
Ask for three versions: website, shelf talker, social caption
Request 3 – 5 options for each so that you can pick which one you like best, or piece together parts from each one. Include use cases such as “Describe why this pillow is perfect for a coastal living room.” Edit for accuracy and brand tone.
Save as a reusable prompt for future markets
Also share them with your staff so that everyone can generate copy in the same voice.
