OTTAWA – The Ottawa Community Housing Corporation has awarded a construction contract for the Somerset Street East redevelopment to Beaudoin Construction, advancing purpose-built supportive housing in Sandy Hill.
According to a release, the new four-storey building will provide 23 studio homes for residents who require additional supports.
Onsite services and shared spaces will be integrated in order to support recovery, build independence and strengthen community connections.
Replacing the original 1902 structure, the building will feature a mix of accessible and standard studio apartments, the release adds, dedicated office space for service providers, barrier-free access, multipurpose spaces for programming and workshops and communal amenities.
It will also be designed to Passive House standards and incorporate energy-efficient systems, rooftop solar panels, advanced ventilation and a durable building envelope.
Construction is scheduled to start this spring.
