TORONTO – Toronto’s East Harbour Transit Hub continues to take shape with major construction developments being showcased by Metrolinx recently.

According to the agency, concrete is being poured for pile caps and grade beams, which will form the foundation of the main station building; preparations are underway to install girders that will carry new rail tracks over Broadview Avenue; and excavation is complete with backfilling underway to improve ground stability for support structures.

Once complete the hub will feature:

  • Six tracks – four for GO and two for the Ontario Line
  • Passenger concourses for GO and the Ontario Line
  • An accessible passenger pick-up and drop-off area
  • Three island platforms – two for GO and one for the Ontario Line
  • Stairs and elevators to the rail platforms to enable easy connections
  • Bike parking
  • Connections to the future Broadview Avenue extension

In March 2025, the Ontario government awarded the contract for major construction to a joint venture of AtkinsRéalis and Bird Construction, leading alongside Hatch Ltd.

It is estimated the investment in expanding the GO network will generate 8,300 jobs in the first 12 years of construction and delivery, the province notes.

The project itself is a joint initiative of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto.

As part of the provincial government’s Transit-Oriented Communities initiative, the East Harbour site is slated to have housing units in the neighbourhood, as well as day care, parkland, retail and recreation.

The hub is located immediately east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue. It will serve the Riverdale, Riverside and Leslieville communities.
