Canada is at a pivotal moment for its construction and infrastructure future.

From housing affordability to major transportation and energy projects, the demand for resilient, innovative, high-performance building materials has never been greater.

At the same time, expectations are shifting — from governments, builders and communities alike — toward sourcing and producing those materials closer to home. This shift reflects not only economic priorities, but also a growing recognition of the importance of supply chain stability, environmental responsibility and national resilience.

Recent federal initiatives are accelerating this shift. Canada’s “Buy Canadian” procurement policy prioritizes domestically produced materials across public spending, ensuring significant infrastructure investments directly support Canadian industries and jobs.

In tandem, nation-building efforts — from housing initiatives like Build Canada Homes to legislation aimed at accelerating major infrastructure development — are creating new momentum to build more, and build faster, across the country. Together, these policies signal a renewed focus on strengthening domestic capacity while delivering on critical infrastructure needs.

Against this backdrop, the launch of Amrize’s “Product of Canada” cement label is both timely and necessary. It’s more than a designation — it’s a commitment.

The Product of Canada label confirms that qualifying cement is made in Canada in accordance with applicable legislative and regulatory requirements and produced under verified Canadian operating conditions. It also reflects a broader commitment to transparency, accountability and trust in how essential construction materials are sourced and manufactured.

That assurance matters. Today’s construction projects face increasing complexity, from supply chain uncertainty to evolving regulatory requirements and climate conditions. Builders and project owners must navigate tight timelines, rising costs and heightened performance expectations.

Knowing that materials are produced locally, backed by verified quality and reliable supply, provides confidence that helps keep projects on track. It also reduces exposure to global disruptions, offering greater predictability in an increasingly uncertain environment.

The impact also extends far beyond the jobsite. Cement is foundational to Canada’s economy — supporting the construction of homes, bridges, transit systems and critical infrastructure that connects communities and drives growth. Across the country, the industry contributes billions of dollars annually and supports tens of thousands of jobs, from manufacturing and logistics to engineering and construction. A strong domestic cement industry is therefore essential not only for building infrastructure, but for sustaining economic vitality and competitiveness.

At Amrize, we are proud to play a leading role in that ecosystem. We bring both national scale and deep local expertise to the projects that shape our communities. With cement operations across Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and British Columbia, we have built a vast national footprint and efficient distribution network designed to serve local markets with consistency and reliability.

Our Product of Canada label at our Exshaw plant, in Alberta and at our Bath facility, in Ontario, reflects that local-to-local approach: producing where we build and supporting the communities where we operate.

This is also a moment of investment and growth. As demand for infrastructure and housing continues to rise, we are investing to expand our cement production capacity across our network nationwide — from Exshaw to St. Constant, Que. — ensuring we can continue to meet growing demand with Canadian-made supply. These investments are about more than increasing output, they are about strengthening Canada’s ability to build its future with materials made here at home, while supporting innovation and long-term efficiencies across the sector.

Expectations of industry partners are evolving. Builders and developers are looking beyond materials alone. They want reliability, technical expertise, innovation and alignment with national priorities. Whether it’s supporting local economies, improving performance or enabling more efficient construction, the bar is higher than ever. Companies that can deliver on all these fronts will play a defining role in shaping the next generation of Canadian infrastructure.

For more than a century, Amrize has helped shape some of Canada’s most iconic structures —from the Champlain Bridge in Montreal and the Confederation Bridge linking Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick, to the Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver and major transportation hubs like Vancouver and Calgary International Airports, as well as landmarks such as Toronto’s Rogers Centre. That legacy continues today, even as expectations around how, and where, we build continue to evolve in response to new economic and environmental realities.

Looking ahead, the opportunity is clear: to build a stronger, more self-reliant construction ecosystem that supports Canadian jobs, communities and economic growth. By prioritizing domestic production and reinforcing local supply chains, Canada can position itself for long-term success in an increasingly competitive global landscape.

Product of Canada  is one step in that direction, grounded in our commitment to quality, performance and partnership, and in our belief that Canada’s future should be built with materials made in Canada.
