LEXINGTON, N.C. – Following a record-setting turnout that raised over $100,000 from its annual Lake Lure golf tournament last year, The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation is building on that momentum with new fundraising efforts that support individuals in the design and furnishings industries in the fight against breast cancer.
“Last year’s annual golf tournament drew a record number of golfers, supporters, sponsors and industry partners, helping the event surpass previous fundraising totals,” said Jane Barea, foundation president.
Encouraged by record participation and increased industry support, The Common Thread for the Cure will hold its annual Lake Lure Golf Tournament at the Rumbling Bald Resort on April 24. In addition, industry organizations are advancing new fundraising initiatives.
“That success has driven the incredible momentum we’re experiencing this year, with industry organizations across the country stepping up to host fundraising events in support of our mission,” added Barea.
Other events include the annual Glamping event in October, in Santa Barbara, Calif., featuring participation by multiple industry companies; a Rose and Resilience event, in Western Michigan in October; a New York City Gala, also in October; and a Sarasota, Fla. event in November hosted by the Interior Design Society. The organization will also hold an Ornament Exchange in two North Carolina locations in December, organized by employees of Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering.
Barea said these events will unite organizations across the industry to honor the legacy of the Common Thread for the Cure, support survivors as they focus on healing, and raise funds for future grants.
