DIGBY, N.S. – Arcadis has announced it has been awarded a design contract by Public Services and Procurement Canada and Transport Canada for the new Digby Ferry Terminal in Nova Scotia.
As the prime consultant, the firm will be responsible for leading the architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and engineering required for a new ferry terminal which will replace the existing Digby Ferry Terminal.
The new building will house the terminal and ticketing booths in a single structure, replacing two separate buildings that were constructed in the 1970s, explains a release.
The ferry serves vehicles and passengers between Digby and Saint John, N.B.
“Working within the site’s existing footprint, the two-storey facility’s design will accommodate terminal operations, including ticketing, waiting and arrival zones and public bathrooms as well as the terminal’s administration services, from intelligent transportation communications facilities to staff amenities,” the release notes.
With a key focus on the Bay of Fundy environment, the facility will also incorporate measures to support reliable operations and enhance safety.
This project expands Arcadis’ transportation sector portfolio in Atlantic Canada, which includes its current design work on the Wrights Cove Transit Terminal in Dartmouth that supports bus rapid transit.
