BURLINGTON, ONT. — The Ontario government is welcoming an investment of $132 million by Tempel Canada, a subsidiary of Worthington Steel, to establish a new 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Burlington.
The project by the manufacturer of transformer core products will sustain over 200 existing positions and create nearly 100 new jobs.
“As demand for artificial intelligence, data infrastructure and energy continues to rise, Worthington Steel’s Tempel Canada operations are increasingly relied upon to manufacture transformer cores and precision electrical steel laminations for companies in critical industries across Ontario,” a release reads. “Outfitted with cutting-edge equipment, real-time data diagnostics and robotics, the new facility will more than double Tempel’s footprint in Canada, while supporting the province’s strategy to secure clean, reliable and affordable power and establish the energy infrastructure needed to support economic growth in high-demand sectors.”
Ontario provided $5 million in funding through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream of the Regional Development Program.
