Cavendish Northern Limited has won a piping prefabrication contract from Technip Energies, which will see vital work being carried out at Cavendish’s state-of-the-art facility in Billingham and is expected to create more than 60 new roles at the site.
The new positions span a wide range of skills and disciplines – including welders, platers, pipefitters, inspectors, quality assurance professionals, and management staff – delivering skilled, long-term employment opportunities for people across Teesside at a time when the region is establishing itself as a hub for the UK’s clean energy transition.
Cavendish, which already employs seven apprentices and recently recruited three more, expects further opportunities to be created for young people as a result of the contract – highlighting how the projects are creating genuine opportunities for local people within the regional supply chain.
To date, NZT Power, NEP, and their major contractors have awarded over 250 UK subcontracts with a combined value of over £2bn. The projects are on course to create and support over 3,000 jobs during the construction period.
Michael Shanks, Minister for Energy in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, welcomed the news during a visit to the Teesworks Skills Academy, where he met with Jonathan Brown, Cavendish Northern Ltd.’s Operations Director, and representatives from Technip Energies, NZT Power, NEP, along with apprentices currently working on the projects.
Shanks said: “Carbon capture, usage, and storage projects are driving investment, economic growth and supporting thousands of jobs in the north east of England. It is a welcome next step that this contract has been awarded, as we continue to make progress delivering first of a kind carbon capture projects in the UK in partnership with British businesses.”
