The companies were shortlisted and invited to respond to an RFP in September 2025. Both companies, Bowmanville Health Partners and PCL Partnerships, submitted their proposals by the June 23 deadline.

According to a release, over the next few months, Infrastructure Ontario and Lakeridge Health will evaluate the submissions and a successful proponent is expected to be announced in the fall.

The expansion to the Bowmanville Hospital will more than double the size of the current facility.

It will include:

  • A patient-centred design, including private rooms and bariatric rooms;
  • a rooftop helipad;
  • Level 3 Critical Care capacity, the highest level of care provided in hospitals for patients who are critically ill or injured;
  • an ambulatory care centre; and
  • a haemodialysis centre

Project is being delivered using a Design-Build-Finance model.
